Description

Redhead Wrasse – Halichoeres rubricephalus

The Redhead Wrasse (Halichoeres rubricephalus) is a striking and active reef fish known for its vivid red to orange head coloration contrasted by a lighter, patterned body. Native to Indo-Pacific reef systems, this species is constantly on the move, providing both color and activity to reef aquariums.

Hardy and adaptable, H. rubricephalus is an excellent choice for established reef tanks. Like most Halichoeres wrasses, it is a natural pest hunter and may help control unwanted hitchhikers such as flatworms and small nuisance invertebrates.

This species is best kept in aquariums with a sand bed, as it buries itself at night or when startled. While generally peaceful, it can become territorial toward similar wrasses, especially in smaller systems.
