The Magnificent Foxface is a truly eye-catching rabbitfish, prized for its dramatic coloration and elegant silhouette. With a boldly marked white face, a prominent black diagonal band, and a body split between white and deep chocolate brown, this species makes an unforgettable addition to mature marine systems.

Appearance

• Coloration: White face with a distinctive black stripe, transitioning to a half-white / half-dark brown body.

• Fin Accents: Soft dorsal and anal fins are edged with vibrant hues of yellow or red, giving it its “magnificent” look.

• Size: Grows to around 9 inches in a healthy environment.

• Temperament: Generally peaceful, but can become defensive if housed with another rabbitfish.

Diet
An herbivore, the Magnificent Foxface thrives on a mix of marine algae, seaweed sheets (nori), and plant-based pellets. It helps keep algae in check but may also nibble on soft or LPS corals if underfed.

Compatibility & Reef Safety

• Reef Safe: With caution. While largely safe, this foxface may sample soft corals or clam mantles if hungry.

• Defensive Mechanism: Its dorsal spines are venomous, so careful handling is essential.

• Tankmates: Can coexist with both peaceful and more aggressive fish. However, avoid pairing with other rabbitfish due to territorial behavior.

Behavior

• This species is a strong swimmer and enjoys grazing on live rock covered in macroalgae.

• It tends to hide at first in a new tank but will become more active as it adjusts.
