Bring a splash of unpredictable color and elegant movement to your reef aquarium with the Aussie Fat Head Toxic Splatter Wall Hammer. This standout LPS coral is a wall-type hammer with thick, fleshy polyps and striking "splatter" coloration — making it a showpiece addition to any saltwater tank.
Visual Appeal
-
Striking “splatter” coloration: The tentacles may exhibit random, neon-accented splotches — often in vibrant greens, purples, or yellows — giving each coral a unique, eye-catching look.
-
Lush, flowing tentacles: Once placed properly, its fleshy polyps gently sway with water flow, adding dynamic motion and natural texture to the reef.
-
Wall-type growth form: Unlike branching hammer corals, this wall hammer features a broad, ribbon-like skeleton and expands outward as it grows — often forming a bold centerpiece over time.
Care & Environment — What It Needs to Thrive
-
Lighting: Low to medium light works best — avoid high-intensity PAR that can cause bleaching; moderate lighting helps maintain color and polyp health.
-
Water Flow: Gentle to moderate, indirect flow encourages tentacle movement without stressing the tissue. Strong currents can prevent full polyp extension or even damage the coral.
-
Water Parameters: Keep parameters stable — typically temperature around 76–80 °F (24–27 °C), salinity ≈ 1.024–1.026 SG, pH 8.1–8.4, calcium 400–450 ppm, alkalinity 8–10 dKH, and magnesium ~1250–1350 ppm. Regular water testing and maintenance are recommended.
-
Tank Placement: Best placed mid- to lower-tank, on rockwork or a stable base. Because wall hammers are top-heavy and don’t attach on their own, secure anchoring (e.g. epoxy or reef-safe putty) is advised.
-
Tank Size: While smaller tanks may accommodate a frag, larger systems (~30 gallons or more) provide the stability and space this coral needs to flourish.
Behavior & Compatibility
-
Like other hammer corals, this wall hammer is semi-aggressive — it can extend sweeper tentacles at night to protect its space. To avoid coral conflict, allow several inches (or more) of clearance from neighboring corals.
-
It generally coexists well with other LPS and soft corals, but always monitor neighboring corals for signs of stinging or stress.
Who It’s Best For
This Australian-origin “Toxic Splatter Wall Hammer” is ideal for intermediate to experienced reef keepers who want a bold, unique centerpiece coral for their tank. Its dynamic tentacles and vivid coloration make it perfect for display aquariums, while its moderate care requirements and hardy nature (for a wall hammer) give it good potential to thrive — provided water parameters remain stable.
